On Our Radar: 3.1 Phillip Lim Brogue

Phillip Lim’s new shoe collection recently hit the sales floor of his Mercer Street boutique. I’m head over heels for the entire line, but these shiny gold brogues especially captured my heart. They’d look amazing with a cuffed wool pant and crisp white shirt, or even a floaty skirt and wool tights. The only problem? Other shoppers who wear 38.5s apparently had the same reaction; my size is completely sold out. I have to wait for the next shipment to arrive (Lim’s shoes are only available at his two stores), but maybe you’ll have more luck.

$495, available at 3.1 Phillip Lim, NYC and L.A.—Romney Leader

Hayden Panettiere In Jenny Packham – Romy Awards

Hayden Panettiere was in Austria, Vienna this weekend as a presenter for The Romy Awards.

She opted to wear a Jenny Packham Spring 2011 dress.

The dusky rose beaded dress was teamed with a taupe Jimmy Choo ‘Tube’ clutch and gold peep-toe pumps.

I’m not one to get excited about Hayden’s red carpet style, but on this occasion I like

Stacy Keibler In Marchesa – ‘The Descendants’ Paris Premiere

Stacy Keibler made her second red carpet appearance as George Clooney’s +1 in France yesterday evening, as the couple attended the ‘The Ides of March’ premiere in Paris.

The actress wore a Marchesa silk-crepe strapless gown.

Her taupe silk-crepe gown is typical of the Marchesa aesthetic with its crystal-embellished bodice, draped back and flowing train.

Stacy accessorized with Amrapali earrings, a Le Vian ring and a pewter crepe de chine Lauren Merkin ‘Diana’ clutch.

I’m not crazy about the colour of the dress, but I guess she has to consider not outshining George.

Whilst she did her best to look beautiful for her man, the first thing that grabbed my attention is the fact that her tit-tape is showing above her right boob.

Tragique.

Blasblog: Hardy Boys and Girls

The chic set celebrated the joy of high heels last night at the 10-year anniversary fête for Parisian cobbler Pierre Hardy. Actress Joana Preiss, who spent the majority of the night sitting down with the likes of friends Nicolas Ghesquière and Hide Nakata, explained that the real pain after breaking her foot two months ago in a freak pool accident wasn’t the fracture, the cast, or the healing. No, what upset Preiss was that she couldn’t wear the funky, metallic Hardy stilettos she loves. “But he has been helping ease the pain,” she smiled, pointing to a pair of flat crocodile boots the designer had given her for the evening. The relationship between pain and pleasure is integral to the sorts of shoes that Hardy prides himself on creating, of course. “Can you have one without the either?” he asked. Replied stylist Charlotte Stockdale, there with husband Marc Newson: “As long as they look good and sexy, it’s worth it.—Derek Blasberg

Blake Lively In Versace – Versace for H&M Fashion Show

The slide of Blake Lively continued at the Versace for H&M fashion show, which was held in New York City last night.

I have long campaigned for Blake Lively to be a Versace girl, but, after seeing her in this Versace Resort 2012 mini dress, I think Donatella was right to pick January Jones.

I love Blake, so this is going to sting.

She looks uber tacky. The Vivienne Westwood look aside, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look so bad.

This black and white mini dress with grommet embellishments is way too tight. Just look at her bust and hips for confirmation.

The tights and blazer were added to tone down the sexiness, but it’s not working.

It like spraying perfume to cover up a bad smell – it just makes it worse.

2010 Met Costume Institute Gala – Carey Mulligan In Miu Miu

Brit actress Carey Mulligan opted for a short modified Miu Miu Fall 2010 dress at the Costume Institute Gala tonight.

Her mauve floral rebrodé lace dress is a cute look, but she’s saying nothing in it.

Had this been Chloe Sevigny she would have worked this mini with confidence and without tights.

Surely the excitement of being at the Met should’ve kept her warm.

Prada black heels and Martin Katz jewels complete the look.

This is my least favourite of the night, but I do like her hair and make-up.

Milla Jovovich In Elie Saab Couture – 2012 Oscars

Thank god for Milla Jovovich.

The actress looked stunning wearing an Elie Saab Fall 2009 Couture gown on the red carpet for the 2012 Oscars, held in LA this evening.

She oozed sexy sophistication that made me believe she was wearing Couture.

Milla’s white fully embellished one shoulder gown with an exaggerated shoulder was teamed with an Edie Parker clutch and Elie Saab platforms.

Already one of the best of the night.

Retro waves, Jacob & Co jewelry and hot red lips completed her look.

The Mystery Is Gone, Karl On Curves, And More…

Mystique in fashion? So last season. Exposure is in (hello, no pants) and exclusivity is out. Tweet, shop, dress, and DIY accordingly. [WWD]Marc Jacobs’ take on fashion’s lack of intrigue? Stop being nostalgic: “It’s just better to accept things for what they are and enjoy them.” [WWD]After Liz Claiborne’s decision to sell exclusively at JCPenney, John Bartlett has decided to leave the company. Look for him and Cintra Wilson shopping elsewhere together. [WWD]German mag Brigitte’s plan to use only real women as models elicited the following from Karl Lagerfeld: “No one wants to see curvy women.” The charm and tact just ooze, right? [Wa Today]Archs sans Lohan? Slightly improved. [The Cut]Trovata: settled. [WWD]Yohji: saved. [WWD]

2010 ESPY Awards – January Jones In Versace

Nice Dress Shame About The Shoes Award
January Jones was one of the presenters at the 2010 ESPY Awards so she didn’t walk the red carpet.

This seemed strange because her co-presenter Zac Efron did.

My worst combination is a white dress with black pumps on the red carpet and in life. It’s a total no no in my book.

At this point I’m really tired about moaning about celebs wearing black pumps on the red carpet, but they just keep wearing them no matter what type of dress they are wearing.

Yes they do work on many occasions, but not here.

January wore a Versace Fall 2010 white dress, which I preferred to Ashley Greene’s.

Her halter dress also had an asymmetrical hemline and a diagonal split but January was able to pull off the look.

It’s more summery and it’s brightens up her complexion.

The Metal-Embroidered Miniskirt Workout

Blame it on Balmain. Christophe Decarnin has brought bedazzle back to fashion, triggering many a formerly minimalist girl’s lust reflex by swathing his clothes in crystal and chain. Critics have noted that these Balmain collections seem to be designed with ultra-skinny girls in mind; less commented upon is the possibility that a dress beaded top-to-bottom with Swarovski is a diet device on its own. This stuff is heavy! Really, really heavy. And as yet more designers take Decarnin’s cue and get out their own stud guns, etc., it seems plausible to wonder whether the money that’s been going to a gym membership might be better applied to, say, Simone’s metal-embroidered miniskirt (available at Intermix later this spring). The line’s designer, L.A.-based Katie Nehra, has been wearing a sample version of her Fall ‘09 skirt that tips the scale at three pounds, which doesn’t sound like much until you’re hoofing up and down stairs in the piece. “Well, I don’t get winded,” she says, “but I’m in pretty good shape.” Cracking wise, Nehra suggests that girls think about their embellished clothes as “like ankle weights, only stylish.” Just please don’t accessorize with running shoes.
